Juvenile

All persons under age 17, charged in Juvenile Court proceedings, must be represented by an attorney. The most serious court disposition is placement in the Youth Division of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Most youthful offenders are placed on court supervision or probation and may have to perform community service.

Thea will be happy to talk with you and your daughter or son to evaluate the case. Together you will devise a plan for representing the best interests of your child.

Frequently asked questions:

  • Will my child have a record? Juvenile cases are impounded files, meaning the names are not published on court files and access to the file is restricted. If someone ran your child's name on a records check, the juvenile case would not appear.

  • Are juvenile cases heard in regular courtrooms? Juvenile court cases are segregated and access to the courtroom is limited.

  • Will my child have to report to a probation officer? Probably.
